Alfredo De La Fe: Dancing Jazz
2001 release
Nili Belkind: Co-production
Cuban New-Yorker violin virtuoso Alfredo de la Fé latest project, "Dancing Jazz," fuses a variety of Latin dance rhythms -- Colombian cumbia, Argentinian zamba, vals Peruano, Cuban guajira and Puerto Rican danza -- with Middle Eastern dance rhythms and jazzy chord structures, leaving plenty of room for solo improvisation. The lineup includes Ernesto Simpson on drums (Arturo Sandoval), Armando Gola on bass (Gonzalo Rubalcaba), Pablo Vergara on piano and keyboards, Little Johnny Rivero Sonora Ponceña) and Pedrito Martinez on congas and percussion, Jay Rodriguez (Miles Davis) on reeds and flute, and Osama Farouk on darbouka and Middle Eastern percussion. Guest artists include Dave Valentin, John Walsh, Joe Fiedler, Nelson Gonzalez, El Chino Bolaño, and Xiomara Laugart.
